Frankie's Fishy Feelings -- New Picture Book about Anxiety & Introducing Therapy

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Do you know a young child who struggles with anxiety? My daughter has anxiety and has struggled with it from a very young age. I remember her separation anxiety as well as her getting nervous if she watched someone break a rule. I sometimes had to turn Curious George off because she got nervous when he broke a rule. There were so many conversations about how her anxiety caused her to feel sick. I wish today's book was available when she was young, but the author is only a few years older than Hazel and was experiencing her own anxiety. The author of today's book is in high school and wrote this book from her own experiences. The book is Frankie's Fishy Feelings by Quincy Kadin. Since the main character is getting ready for the first day of school, I recommend it for the preschool through early elementary age kids.

Stingers -- 2nd book in the Middle Grade Sharks Inc Series

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Last year I introduced you to Sharks Inc. with the middle grade novel Fins. This summer the Sharks Inc. threesome is back and are still tagging sharks and solving mysteries. Dr. Ford has brought the team to the Bahamas where Captain Hannah will oversee their work. While there they explore Katt Island with a local girl whose mother owns the hotel they are staying in and find all sorts of mysteries and trouble. The second book is Stingers by Randy Wayne White.

Middle Grades Summer Reading with Environmental Themes

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Is school out where you live? Hazel finished last week. Of course it wasn't a big celebration with the state just starting to re-open. But we have started to think about summer. Although I don't see too many trips to the beach this year even when we are at Cape Cod. But reading about them is always fun. Today I am sharing two books about life near water--a lake and the ocean. Do you go to any body of water every summer? Are you going this year?

Resources to help love nature

Disclosure: I was sent these products in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Have you been watching Shark Week? It ends tomorrow. Now I will admit to not watching it because I see enough about sharks in the news (just saw this on the news as I write this post) with all the sightings around Cape Cod and off the shore of Boston. However I love how this week gets people thinking about these amazing creatures and nature in general. To keep this going I am sharing some great resources about nature and helping you get your kids loving it. To begin we will start with a DVD for younger kids that includes a bit about sharks. It is Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: It Always Sharkest

Octonauts: Calling All Sharks! DVD Review & Giveaway

Congratulations to April of April's Homemaking for winning the $30 gift certificate to the Air Plant Shop!
Disclosure: NCircle Entertainment gave me a copy of the DVD free of charge and is supplying the one for the giveaway free of charge. All opinions in my review are my own and I did not receive any other compensation.

Now Hazel loves the Octonauts. It is one of her favorite shows to watch and she is so excited they are now making Octonauts DVD's and even more excited that we got a copy of the latest one to review before it is released on June 24th. Its suggested retail price is $12.99.

Octonauts: Calling All Sharks! has six episodes of The Octonauts on it including Cookiecutter Sharks, Giant Jelly, Lost Lemon Shark, Hungry Pilot Fish, Dwarf Lantern Shark, and Porcupine Puffer. Although Hazel has seen all of these episodes on television, she still loves to watch them and loves that she can watch them any time she wants. I love having her watch this DVD since each episode teaches about a sea creature. She loves learning about them. She actually has been telling me and testing me on facts she learns from the show. Plus I actually do not mind watching this show with her and neither does Steve, so needless to say we are all happy to have the DVD to watch with her.

Since so many of these episodes involve sharks, I thought I would share our shark exploration crafts again. We showed the layers of teeth in one craft and the feel of their skin in the second one.

Now NCircle Entertainment has also been kind enough to give away a copy to one of you. All you have to do to enter is follow the steps of the Rafflecopter and my Giveaway Rules. This contest is open to US and Canada residents!
